Baan – Bangkok

Thanks to the tip from a Singaporean friend, we found this little gem at Bangkok.

The interior of Baan is a fresh modern mix of wood, white steel and marble. The ceiling is covered with mirror pieces and copper lamps.

As the name of the restaurant suggests, the friendly staff makes you feel at home immediately. But it’s more than good home cooking. They try to get the best out of everything: from the ambiance and the dishes to the sourcing of the ingredients.

The surprises kept adding up when we discovered the very nice whine list. Even wines from Raveneau were on the menu. And the choice was large, you could already pick a really good wine starting at 1000 bath.
As entrée we chose fishcakes (clown featherback fish) with a mild spicy dip. As a second starter we ate vegetarian spring rolls without the ever present vermicelli, combined with an elegant sweet and sour sauce. Not sticky but refined.

After the deliscious starters, it even got better with the main dishes:

Minced 30 days dry ages beef covered by deep fried Thai basil

Massaman curry with lam

Both accompanied by Jasmin rice.
To end, we choose our beloved Thai dessert:

sticky rice with fresh mango.

We would be surprised if this restaurant would not be in the top 10 best restaurants of 2016 in Asia.
